Whole Student. Whole System. Every story deserves to be seen

Whole Student. Whole System.
Every story deserves to be seen.

Design support systems that recognize identity, experience, and complexity.

Whole Student. Whole System.

Students are not data points: they are whole people.

Whole Student. Whole System. is a transformative course that helps teams understand the layered complexity of student identity and use inclusive design to reshape policies, programs, and support structures. By learning how to map identity, surface inequities, and act with intentionality, professionals walk away with both empathy and action.

Program Modules

Module 1: Mapping Identity Explore how race, class, gender, ability, and other intersecting identities shape student experience. Learn to use identity mapping as a tool for empathy, insight, and institutional transformation.

Module 2: The Myth of the Single Story Challenge the assumptions and narratives that reduce students to a single trait or statistic. Unpack how stereotypes and institutional shortcuts obscure the complexity of real student lives.

Module 3: Disability and Power Examine how ableism is built into educational systems and how power dynamics affect students with disabilities. Understand disability not as deficit, but as part of human diversity and systemic design.

Module 4: The Weight of Being Explore the emotional, mental, and cultural labor students carry as they navigate systems not built for them. Learn how invisible burdens affect engagement, persistence, and belonging.

Module 5: Advising Across Difference Build the capacity to advise students whose lived experiences differ from your own. Practice intentional listening, relational humility, and critical reflection to deepen impact and trust.

Module 6: At the Edges of the System Focus on students who fall between categories or don’t fit neatly into institutional models. Learn how to notice, include, and support students often rendered invisible by system design.

Module 7: Moving Beyond Referrals Shift from transactional referrals to transformative collaboration. Explore how to build relationships across departments that center student context and continuity of care.

Module 8: Whole Student, Whole System in Action Integrate your learning into a practical equity-centered action plan. Design advising and support structures that affirm identity, disrupt harm, and foster true belonging.
