Gerron Scott Consulting
Architecting the Future of Higher Ed

The Who
I never set out to become a consultant. I set out to make advising matter.
Not just in forms or workflows, but in the lived experience of students. Especially those navigating systems that weren’t built with them in mind.
I’m Dr. Gerron Scott, a higher education consultant, speaker, and student success strategist who has garnered several awards for my advising work. I partner with colleges and universities to redesign advising systems that are equity-centered, human-driven, and built to last.
I hold a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership, Policy, and Justice, and I’ve spent over a decade working across two- and four-year institutions, leading advising teams, developing student success frameworks, and helping hundreds of advisors deepen their practice. I also hold a Master’s in Higher Education and a Bachelor’s in English, and have served in leadership roles at the departmental and institutional levels.
But my approach isn’t just rooted in scholarship. It’s rooted in experience.
As a student, I had an advisor who meant well, but never truly saw me. Our conversations were limited to course selection. I left with a schedule, not with support. That moment shaped my understanding of what advising could be and what it should never be.
Later, as an advisor myself, I learned what it meant to earn students’ trust in their most vulnerable moments: when they were navigating mental health struggles, crisis situations, or deep uncertainty. Those experiences taught me that effective advising can’t be reduced to policy or programming. It has to be personal. It has to be intentional.
That’s why I created this consulting practice to help institutions move from transactional advising to transformational systems that center equity, care, and connection.
If you’re ready to design a future where students thrive and advising is a force for justice, I’m here to help you build it.
The Why
This work is personal.
As an undergraduate, I had an advisor who was kind, but disconnected. Our meetings were transactional. It was all about what classes I needed, not who I was becoming. I didn’t feel seen. That experience stayed with me. Years later, when I discovered how powerful advising could be, how it could shape student success far beyond course registration, something clicked. I realized advisors aren’t just guides. They are partners, mentors, and lifelines.
That belief has shaped everything I’ve done since.
I’ve spent my career helping institutions build advising systems that do more than inform, they transform. I’ve supported students navigating everything from academic challenges to mental health crises and sexual assault. Some of them trusted no one but me. That kind of trust is earned through presence, care, and consistency. It’s the same foundation I bring when working with campuses.
But I don’t stop at direct service. I’ve also helped hundreds of advisors across the country strengthen their practice, making equity real, compassion actionable, and strategy sustainable. Clients often tell me I’m inspirational, that I help them see what’s possible and connect with people in ways they hadn’t before. That’s because I believe in both the system and the soul of this work.
When we work together, you won’t just get a consultant. You’ll get someone who builds relationships, challenges assumptions, and believes in designing advising systems students actually want to engage with systems that cultivate confidence, kindness, and connection.
Because when advising is done right, it doesn’t just guide students.
It changes lives.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Statement
At Gerron Scott Consulting, we believe that diversity enriches learning and equity strengthens communities. Rooted in justice-driven practice, our work is dedicated to supporting institutions in creating environments where all students, staff, and faculty, regardless of background, identity, or circumstance, are valued, heard, and empowered to thrive.
We approach every partnership with a commitment to:
-
Centering Equity: Moving beyond awareness to embed equity into policies, procedures, and decision-making.
-
Valuing Diverse Perspectives: Recognizing the expertise and lived experiences of all campus stakeholders.
-
Dismantling Barriers: Identifying and removing systemic obstacles that limit belonging or opportunity.
-
Sustainable Systems Change: Building structures that support inclusive practice, not one-off solutions.
Rather than stand-alone efforts, DEI is woven into every aspect of our consulting, training, and advising systems design. We work collaboratively, with humility and care, to ensure higher education systems reflect the values of access, identity support, and dignity for all.
We value ongoing learning and welcome feedback. If you’d like to learn more about how we champion DEI in our work, or have suggestions for how we can do so more effectively, please connect with us at info@gerronscott.com.
